Affiliate wrap: Bears rubber stamp finals with big weekend win

The Burleigh Bears will be hoping to be a force to be reckoned with in this year's Hostplus Cup finals series thanks to a dominant 35-6 win over Wynnum Manly on Sunday.

Featuring three Titans who all played a part in the strong victory against one of the competition front-runners, last season's minor premiers led from start to finish at Kougari Oval with Tony Francis, Ken Maumalo and Jacob Alick starring in claiming the two competition points.

Young flyer Francis topped the metres count with 214 over 20 runs, whilst fellow winger Maumalo contributed with a try assist and a line break assist on the flank.

Alick also played his part with a barnstorming run to score his 11th try of the season and cement the game in the 50th minute - registering a line break and a try assist in his 80 minutes on field.

Souths Logan's loss at the weekend opens the door for the Bears to finish on top should they take down the Cutters (home) and Blackhawks (away) in their final two regular season games.

It was a different story for Tweed who went down to the Pride 34-24 at home on Saturday.

It's an important two finals weeks for them to ensure they qualify for the playoffs, but do get their two final regular season games at home against the Jets and Falcons.
