Affiliate wrap: Burleigh, Tweed progress to QRL prelims

The Burleigh Bears are set to make their fifth consecutive Hostplus Cup preliminary final appearance after defeating the Central Queensland Capras 38-12 on Saturday afternoon.

Featuring Titans Tony Francis and Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui in the clash, the minor premiers held a narrow 14-12 lead at the break, before racing home with 24 unanswered points in the second half to setup a showdown against either the Souths Logan Magpies or Wynnum Manly Seagulls at home to earn a ticket to the big dance.

Francis was a force to be reckoned with on the flank, scoring a try and making 184 running metres, two line breaks and five tackle breaks; meanwhile, Fa'asuamaleaui contributed in the engine room with a charging 116 metres.

The Gold Coast's other affiliate Tweed also shared success in the Hastings Deering Colts, dominating the Bears to win 46-10 and progress to week three of the finals.

Finishing the regular season on top of the Under 21s competition, the qualifying final saw three full-time Titans in action, including Jaylan De Groot, Oskar Bryant and Ryan Foran, with both De Groot and Bryant finding the white stripe in the eight tries to two performance.

They'll next meet either the Sunshine Coast Falcons or Townsville Blackhawks in a bid to progress to this year's grand final.

With the Bears having finished in the top four, they'll get another shot against the Redcliffe Dolphins this Saturday at Pizzey Park.
