Tino's Titanic Stats: Was this his best season yet?

Titans captain, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, was enormous in the cyan and yellow again this season.

Building on his first season as captain in 2022, the 23 year old produced numbers this year that put him in the upper echelon of NRL props, culminating in his selection for both the Maroons and Mal Meninga's Australian side in 2023.

Known for his spirited defense and ability to break a game open with his unrelenting work ethic, the young prop continues to refine his craft and lead from the front for his team.

The craziest prospect? The stats show he keeps getting better, proving the best is yet to come (a thought that should send shivers down opposition sides).

These are the stats behind Tino's season for the Titans, and how they compare to his previous years.

Quick stats

  • 19 games
  • 6 tries
  • 3208 running metres
  • 1218 post contact metres
  • 52 tackle breaks
  • 6 line breaks
  • 33 offloads
  • 626 tackles

Run metres

Tino averaged 168 metres per game this season, totaling a mammoth 3208 metres in '23.

Averaging 168 metres per game, Fa'asuamaleaui beat his previous best seasonal average set in '22 by 8 metres a game.

He also averaged an exhausting 16 hit ups per game, and ran for over 200 metres in three of the final four rounds.

Compared to the rest of the competition, only two other forwards ran for more metres per game and both played finals football (Payne Haas and Addin Fonua-Blake).

Post Contact Metres

At 1218 post-contact metres, Tino ranked third in the NRL among forwards this year and fifth overall by average.

Averaging 64 post contact metres per game, Tino also delivered 33 offloads (the most in his career).

Tackle Breaks

In the same vein, Tino's 52 tackle breaks equaled his best seasonal average (2.74 per game) set in 2022.

In a game where props rarely find themselves in open space, Tino recorded six line breaks this season and finished with six tries for his efforts near the line.

Tackles

A workhorse in both attack and defense, Tino recorded his best season defensively since his debut.

Averaging 33 tackles per game, Tino surpassed his previous best by three tackles a game and totaled 626 at 92.47% efficiency in 2023.
