Murphy acknowledged with QSport Coach of the Year nomination

Titans NRLW coach Karyn Murphy APM has been nominated for Queensland Sport’s Coach of the Year, to be announced at the upcoming Queensland Sport Awards later this month.

Helping steer the Gold Coast to their maiden grand final earlier this year, one of the greatest women to ever play rugby league has been acknowledged alongside a number of other coaches across the game, including Broncos NRL coach Kevin Walters and Queensland Maroons duo Billy Slater and Tahnee Norris.

She joins a star-studded list of nominees from other codes, with Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan and renowned Queensland swimming mentors Dean Boxall and Kate Sparks among the names in the running for the top mentoring gong.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell has reignited calls for Murphy to be inducted as the game’s first female Immortal, congratulating the NRLW coach on her most recent accolade after being named Gold Coast’s ‘Champion of Sport’ in September.

“It’s no surprise Karyn has been nominated for this award with her inspirational leadership to get the Titans to the Gold Coast’s first national sporting grand final,” he said.

“She is more than deserving to be among the incredible list of sporting mentors who have helped Queensland athletes reach their full potential in 2023.

“It’s just another reason why she should be inducted as the game’s first female Immortal.

“Not only representing her country for 15 years – 14 of those as captain of the Jillaroos in an era where there was very little support – but she continues to be a trailblazer in the coaching space, inspiring the next generation of female athletes across the game and abroad.

“We wish her all the very best with her nomination.”

The Queensland Sport Coach of the Year award will be announced on Thursday, November 30.
