Lolesio credits Pelite for Vani double act

Ivana Lolesio will become the third Rugby 7s convert on the Titans NRLW roster in 2024, following in the footsteps of ex-union stars, Evania Pelite and Niall Williams-Guthrie.

The 7s star credits her switch to the influence of Evania Pelite, who ignited her decision to make the transition.

Lolesio will become the third Rugby 7s convert on the Titans NRLW roster in 2024, following in the footsteps of ex-union stars, Evania Pelite and Niall Williams-Guthrie.

"Vani was a big push for me to come over, and I'm glad I did. I'm very grateful to be here," Lolesio said.

"She’s someone that I've always deeply respected and admired. We’ve known each other since I was six years old.

"I've always trusted her opinion and her advice on where to go. She’s definitely a big influence in my life, not just as an athlete, but also as a person.

"I'm just really grateful that God blessed us to be together today. It's just amazing to be able to play alongside each other."

Lolesio is relishing her time in the centres at Burleigh, building combinations with her new Titans' teammates, including halfback Lauren Brown.

"They're my girls, I love them. They've been massive help with me.

"They've just been so welcoming, especially Loz. She's been a blessing in my life, always there to help me learn and take time to help me through clarity, content and detail."

The opportunity to be coached by Karyn Murphy was another drawcard for making the move to the NRLW.

“She had me in the first meeting,” Lolesio told Titans.com.au.

"When I got told that she wanted to meet with me I was a little bit scared to be honest, just because of the amount of respect I have for her, for what she's done for our game, she’s arguably the GOAT.

"The firm faith and belief that she showed in me the first time we met was everything and more. I didn't have to think about it twice to make my decision.

"I wanted to play for her. I haven't felt that feeling in a long time to play for a coach.

With the NRLW season just around the corner, the centre is excited to be joining her new teammates when pre-season begins in late May.

"I'm really excited, they’re a great bunch of girls, and they've all made me feel really welcome. Murph has really got me to ignite that fire again, so I'm looking forward to it and humbled to be here."
