Jaylan De Groot is just eight games into his NRL career.

The young fullback stepped into the role in round four following injury to Keano Kini.

He's now played seven straight games and says he thinks his game is getting better every week.

From a nervous start when called up, the 22-year-old now believes he is growing in confidence and that's allowing him to start backing himself and his skills at the top level.

"It's been an awesome experience week in week out playing fullback," he said.

"My goal each week is just to do the best I can each game and hopefully help the team get the win.

"I just try and do everything I can to get the team the win."

De Groot says he gained plenty of confidence from Des Hasler, with the coach helping develop areas of his game.

"When I first came in, I was nervous," he said.

"Having a coach like Des back you it takes those nerves away.

"Every week I just ask him little things on what he needs me to do and what I can do better.

"We do video around defensive reads and things I can get better at, so having him in my corner definitely helps.

De Groot with a sensational try save

"The more games I play the more confident I'm getting to back my ability and make the right plays."

While he's grabbing his opportunity in the number one jersey, De Groot says he's prepared to put any number on his back once Kini returns from injury.

"Whatever Des and the coaching staff want, I'm happy to play anywhere," he said.

"Whether it is centre, wing or fullback, I'm just happy to play footy."

The Titans head to Canberra this weekend to face a Raiders team sitting in the top-four on the ladder.

Coming off a win against Newcastle in round ten, De Groot says the Gold Coast side needs to continue to improve if they're to get the win in the nation's capital.

"We need to start well and not get behind early and chase points," he said.

"We need to stay in the game and stay in the grind but I'm hopeful we'll be able to get it over them.

"We know we've got the team to beat any side on our day so we've just got to complete and put our best foot forward."
