Titans fullback AJ Brimson has opened up about his decision to switch his playing allegiance to England, saying it was something he "wanted to do for a while" to honour his mum, Vanessa.
Brimson successfully applied last month to switch his international eligibility to Tier 1 nation England after he was initially barred due to representing Australia in the now dormant World Nines tournament held in 2019, where he was part of the winning side.
“I always thought it would be great if I could get the chance to represent both sides of the family because I am very proud of my English heritage as well," Brimson said.
"I am 27 this year; I am getting on. I just thought I would try to follow my mum’s side.
"It is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, play for England, so I will be putting my hand up to try to play for them this year and going forward.
“My whole mum’s side of the family is in England. We used to go there as kids for family holidays … to Plymouth. (Mum) is from south London and she has got some family there which is good."

With Queensland currently one down in this year's State of Origin series and Brimson in good form despite the overall fortunes of the Titans so far, his decision means he will not be able to add to his four games in maroon, having last played for the side in 2023.
However, while it is a decision he is comfortable with, he will forever support Queensland come Origin time.
“I am obviously a very proud Queenslander. I grew up in Brisbane and my dream was to play Origin, but I also grew up with a mum and family from England," Brimson said.
“Obviously, you’d always love to be part of Origin, but this is the decision I have made and I have made it for my reasons.
“It would be cool for my son (Beckham) to see me play for England. I want him to know his heritage as well.
“It’s always hard when you say you can’t be eligible for Origin being a Queenslander, but the opportunity to play for England is something I couldn’t pass up.
“It’s a big decision to make. You don’t take it lightly.
“Origin is something that is very important to me as well and I am still a very proud Queenslander. I have got all my kit and have got my kid dressed in Queensland gear on Origin (night).
“Nothing is taking away my passion for Queensland, but when you have got parents from different countries you’ve got two heritages.”

With the Ashes coming up at the end of this year and a World Cup in the horizon, Brimson said he’d be “putting his hand up” to be considered for selection, but knew it wouldn’t be easy to break into Shaun Wane’s squad.
“(The Ashes) would be insane to be a part of especially over there,” Brimson said.
“I have family over there that would love to see me play.
“When I put my hand up to play, (I want to play) as well as a I can to try and get picked to play any position that the coach wants me.
“I want to make my England debut and the World Cup is something that is on the cards as well.”
Despite playing in a Titans side who have struggled to put together complete performances this year, Brimson has been one of the standouts in each game and led from the front as his side ambushed Manly in their Round 15 match.
Bouncing back from a particularly heavy loss against the Broncos last week, Brimson, who has been back playing fullback in the absence of Keano Kini, helped set the tone with 261 run metres, a try assist and an attacking mindset.

Titans v Sea Eagles – Round 15, 2025
Although still at the bottom of the ladder, the Titans are only three points outside of the eight, with Brimson confident his team could make a late charge if they were able to replicate the effort and application of their 28-8 win.
“We are planning on it not being a one-off,” Brimson said.
“We think this is what we have been capable of for weeks. I thought against the Storm we were a bit unlucky not to win.
“The Broncos (loss) was inexcusable, but we are back on track with the way we want to play.
“We have got Parramatta next week. We are not getting ahead of ourselves, but we are trying to put some wins together.”
