O'Callaghan appointed Tweed Seagulls head coach for 2026

The Titans wish to congratulate Joe O'Callaghan who has been appointed head coach of the Tweed Seagulls for the next two seasons.

The experienced mentor joins the Gold Coast's affiliate club upon finishing his role as head of rugby league at The Hill Sports High School in Sydney and brings with him over 20 years of coaching to assume duties from Dave Penna, who moves to the head of football role with the Seagulls in 2026.

A respected figurehead in the game, O'Callaghan recently spent four seasons at South Sydney; serving as a NRL assistant coach, NSW Cup head coach, NRL development coach and Jersey Flegg head coach, and led the Rabbitohs to the 2023 NSW Cup premiership and NRL State Championship title.

He also has experience in the Hostplus Cup as head coach of the Northern Pride in 2015-2016, as well as coaching Titans affiliate school Marsden State High School from 2016-2018.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell is excited to welcome O'Callaghan to the role.

"I'd like to congratulate Joe on his appointment and we’re excited to see him continue to develop elite talent in our region through this important role," he said.

"The Seagulls are a vital part of our club’s future success and having someone like Joe in the all-important Cup head coaching role will only strengthen that connection and opportunity for players aspiring to play NRL.

"I'd also like to acknowledge David Penna and his hard work and dedication over the past three years as head coach as he moves into his new head of football role with Tweed."

Seagulls CEO Brendon Lindsay is pleased to confirm O'Callaghan's appointment.

"On behalf of the Seagulls board, staff and community, I'd like to welcome Joe and his family to our club," he said.

"From the first time we met Joe, his enthusiasm for coaching, his knowledge of our club, and his passion for bringing people together really shone through.

"We look forward to supporting him intertwine his philosophies for rugby league into our club."

O'Callaghan will begin his new role in October.
