Rugby League Gold Coast’s junior competition is set to become the Gold Coast Titans Junior League, marking a significant step in strengthening the connection between grassroots rugby league and the NRL.
The new name reflects a unified vision to better align the region’s junior competition with the Titans’ NRL and NRLW programs, reinforcing a clear and aspirational pathway for young players across the Gold Coast.
With junior league growth continuing to soar, up 8.43 percent in 2025 to now boast over 7,100 participants across the RLGC, junior rugby league plays a vital role in developing not only future talent, but also the next generation of community leaders.
The expanded memorandum of understanding will also see past Titans players recognised with their names to be honoured through the renaming of the older age group competitions - such as the Anthony Laffranchi Cup for Under 14s and Preston Campbell for the Under 13s.
Announced during the club’s annual Macca’s ambassador visits across Gold Coast clubs and on the eve of Junior League Round at Cbus Super Stadium this Saturday, Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said the change symbolised a deeper connection with local junior rugby league and the long-term future of the game in the region.
“We are incredibly proud of this connection and very grateful to the Gold Coast Rugby League for our partnership ” he said.
“The Gold Coast Titans Junior League represents more than just a name change - it’s a clear statement about our commitment to the grassroots of the game and the vital role junior rugby league plays in our club’s success.
“We want every young player pulling on a jersey in this competition to feel connected to the Titans and to believe that one day, they can run out at Cbus Super Stadium and proudly represent the Gold Coast.
“By bringing the competitions closer together under one identity, we’re strengthening that pathway and ensuring the next generation of Titans can continue coming through local systems and be the next Jayden Campbell or Cooper Bai.”
Rugby League Gold Coast Chair Wayne Court said the expanded MOU reinforces the strong partnership between the two organisations and provides added inspiration for players, coaches and volunteers.
“This is a proud day for rugby league on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“Our junior competition has always been the heartbeat of the game in this region, and further aligning with the Titans brand only strengthens that connection.
“It gives our young players something tangible to aspire to and highlights the direct pathway that exists from local fields right through to the NRL and NRLW.
“We’re excited about what this means for the future of the game and the opportunities it will create for everyone involved in junior rugby league.”
This partnership builds on the club’s growing regional footprint, following the landmark three-year agreement with Rugby League Northern Rivers that united Group 1, Group 18 and Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League under one banner to strengthen pathways, participation and development opportunities across Northern New South Wales.
