Final set for Haas brothers' local derby battle

Saturday's showdown will be the fifth and final set for the Haas brothers battle between the Titans and Broncos - the decider of a Grand Slam if using tennis vernacular.

Drawn 2-2 with Payne off to the Rabbitohs at season's end, this weekend's clash will determine who is the ultimate sibling among this friendly rivalry that brings to life the 'big brother, little brother' analogy used to describe the iconic Macca's Local Derby.

Haas senior earned bragging rights after Brisbane took the points in Round 5.

Klese wants them back.

"Hopefully I get bragging rights this weekend... he already has lots to brag about," he chuckled when asked about this week's brotherly rivalry.

"Hopefully I can get something over him."

'We hope to rectify last year's result': Haas

Despite the fierce feud between the duo on field, there's nothing but brotherly love with pair who are always talking to each other about footy and family life.

Payne has been Klese's rugby league confidant since he debuted in 2022 - always wanting to help him improve his game as he approaches his 71st appearance in the NRL.

"We talk almost everyday. He messages me after every game and we keep in touch quite a bit. He's probably the first person to message me after the game to see how I pulled up," he said.

"He always calls me and gives me a paragraph of things to work on after games. It's good to have someone to lean on like that.

"We'll still talk quite a bit this week... just nothing about game plans and whatnot."

Hungry to deliver the Titans a win after narrowly going down to the Sea Eagles 12-10 a fortnight ago, the Broncos are in the same boat after their four-point loss to the Dragons on Sunday afternoon.

Adding to their motivation is their Black Dog Institute initiative now in its second year.

"They're coming off a loss and are wearing the black jerseys again [like last season], Haas said. Obviously last year they put a score on us so hopefully we can rectify that result and get the job done.

"We're expecting a bit of hostility going up there but we're ready for it."
