Titans co-captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has won his third Paul Broughton Medal, becoming only the second player to claim a trifecta of top gongs on Tuesday night.
Joining alongside inaugural skipper Luke Bailey who won the silverware in 2007, 2010 and 2011; the powerhouse prop stormed home in the final tally with six consecutive best-on-ground performances to finish the year on 31 votes.
Edging out Keano Kini who was next best with 27 votes, the prestigious accolade tops off a big year for Fa’asuamaleaui, who missed a majority of the pre-season due to knee surgery before playing the backend of the year in honour of his late father Fereti who passed away only days before Origin II.
It was a historic night for the Titans NRLW program - player of the year honours shared between Teagan Levi and Sienna Lofipo for the first time since inception.
Levi was rewarded for her incredible switch from Rugby 7s to rugby league - dominating the competition at five-eighth, topping the competition for tackle breaks as one of the Titans’ most competitive; whilst Lofipo played a pivotal role in Gold Coast’s No. 13 jersey, shortlisted for the NRLW Dally M Team of the Year at lock.
NRLW captain Georgia Hale earned recognition from her peers as the side’s players’ player; whilst all-time try scorer Phil Sami got the honour from his teammates in his final season before making the move to the Dragons.
In other football awards, Kini didn’t leave empty handed after getting the Members' MVP; meanwhile, the Titans Legion joined with Titans coaching staff in crediting Levi for her incredible switch to the 13-player game.
Oliver Pascoe’s rookie of the year title comes as no surprise with the 27-year-old former tiler now an integral part of Gold Coast’s spine at hooker; whilst young prop Fanua Rimoni’s breakout year was rewarded after starting in every one of her nine appearances this season.
Pascoe also claimed the effort player of the year – his incredible try-saving effort in Round 21 at Kogarah highlighted alongside Evania Isa’ako’s switch to the forward pack after returning from pregnancy to show her experience in the back-row.
