Young prop forward Jai Whitbread reported for pre-season training last week with one objective that will drive him through the summer months.
In what will be his full pre-season as part of an NRL squad, the 19-year-old was quick to introduce himself to the likes of Ryan James, Jarrod Wallace and Brenton Lawrence, all players he’ll be looking to extract as much information out of as he can.
“All the boys have been very welcoming,” Whitbread said. “There are a few familiar faces but I’ll be looking to learn all I can from those more experienced guys.”
The South Tweed product returns closer to home and can see a bright future here on the Gold Coast.
“Of course it’s great to be closer to home and it’s better than being up there (in Brisbane) as I’m closer to the beach.
“It’s certainly nice to be home and I’m here ready to rip in.”
Whitbread played 44 matches as part of the Broncos NYC side over the past two years and is excited about the jump up in competition.
“I saw the move as a great opportunity, the club is one on the rise and I now need to seize the opportunity.”
