Yes, Mam: Young guns to battle in Derby

They are the young halves looking to guide their team to success over their nearest rival next weekend, but whichever side walks off victorious next week, there is a strong chance Toby Sexton or Ezra Mam will have had a heavy influence in the result.

While both players were junior stars, it was the schoolboys program and time in the Hostplus Cup that guided Sexton and Mam into the NRL and next weekend's Macca's Local Derby.

Mam relies heavily on halfback Adam Reynolds to guide the Broncos around the park, while Sexton takes the controlling role in his side.

In a similar tale for both sides, the number six jersey has seen injuries force changes in the scrum base partnership, before Mam made the Broncos jersey his own in recent weeks.

While on the Titans side, Sexton hasbn't missed a minute of football this season but, similarly, injuries have forced regular changes to Sexton's scrum base partners in 2022.

In the tale of the tape there is not a lot between the young stars with Sexton setting up six tries with five line break assists this season, while Mam has four and four to his name.

The clearest difference in their roles comes when you look at the kicking stats, with Sexton taking the majority of the workload of in-play kicking for his side - averaging 350+ metres a game and forcing 20 drop outs so far this year.

Mam, on the other hand, brings a strong running game - averaging 100+ metres per game but only kicking in a support role to the dominant Reynolds with an average of 74 metres.

Whatever way the game falls next week, the names Mam and Sexton are sure to have an influence.

So, which young star will shine in what will be one of the biggest games of their young careers at a packed Cbus Super Stadium?
