Sam Verrills knows come kick-off on Sunday, that he and his team-mates have done work needed to be able to perform.
“The way (the club) has trained us and prepared us for Sunday has been really rewarding because I know I’ve got the reps in; they’ve absolutely flogged us but in a good way," he said.
Speaking to Matt White on SEN Radio, Verrills says the build up to the season proper for the Titans has been built on hard work.
“There’s a different training regime up here and this is my fifth pre-season now and this is up there with the hardest I’ve ever done.
"We've really put in the reps in pre-season ... we've talked about the way we want to play. It's a good spine, a young spine, but then we've got Foz (Kieran Foran) there that can control it all."
The 24-year-old says the Gold Coast side wants notch early wins, building towards a return to finals in 2023.
"I definitely wouldn't have moved here unless I had the opportunity to play finals," Verrills said.
"Consistency is our biggest key and if we can start fresh and fast this week and come away with the win that's going to be good for our season."
Having spent his first four seasons at the Roosters under Trent Robinson, Verrills says he's looking forward to building success with Titans coach Justin Holbrook.
“(Holbrook) is a lot quieter than Robbo (Robinson),” he added.
“He has a laid back type of approach and he talks individually really well.
“He’s a great coach and he’s a big reason why I came up here.
“I had a good chat with him last year and his approach to rugby league is a bit different.
“The boys love playing under him.”
