Former Titans flyer Anthony Don has announced he will take part in this year's Gold Coast Marathon to raise funds for Joseph Pouniu.
Embarking on a new challenge that will test him physically and mentally having never run a marathon before, the 152-game Gold Coast star knows it will be tough, but is the least he could do to help support the injured Future Titans captain and his family after the 17-year-old suffered a serious spinal cord injury earlier this year.
"I'm just looking to raise funds for Joseph Pouniu, so I thought I'd run the marathon and try and raise as much money as I can from the local Gold Coast community and the rugby league community in general," Don said.
"I've never run a marathon and I've struggled to run long distances... so it's going to be a real challenge for me, but the challenge isn't anything like Joseph is facing.
"He is such a great kid who was captain of his high school and captain of the Future Titans Under 17s when we played the Broncos.
"It was a life-changing incident, so the family and himself have got a long battle ahead and as much money raised will go a long way into his improvement in the future."
Preparing to run the 42 kilometre event on Sunday, July 2; Gold Coast Marathon's Ryan McDonald is proud to have Don part of this year's event to assist in the fundraising efforts for 'Big Joe', with the former Titan receiving complimentary race entry to participate.
"We're really thankful that Anthony has stepped up to run the Gold Coast Marathon this year on July 2 to raise funds for Joseph," he said.
"We wish him all the best with his training over the next nine weeks and hopefully he can finish strongly on the day."
