'Plenty to play for': Brimson backs belief despite Roosters setback

The Titans may have been disappointed by their opening 40 minutes against the Roosters, but AJ Brimson has full faith his side can shake it off and remain focussed on their quest for success on the Gold Coast.

With interim head coach Jim Lenihan continually referencing his expectation of effort - which has been seen in strong performances irrespective of results across the past month - the first half of last Saturday's clash against the tricolours didn't reflect the side's overarching goal of delivering a performance the community is proud of.

But, the Titans' stand-in captain has urged his team not to panic despite the lacklustre start to their past fixture, joining the Gold Coast mentor in reminding the squad about overcoming the adversity and focusing on their end long-term goal as they prepare to get back on the horse against the Cowboys this Sunday.

"Jimmy is really good at instilling the fact this is the path that we're on and there's going be days (like against the Roosters), but the team that we want to be is a team that takes on this sort of thing and believes in what we're working towards," Brimson said.

"Whether that's being a top four side next year, or if it's winning a comp in three or four years, but we're just trying to change the DNA because obviously in the last five years there hasn't been too much success around here.

"There's going to be weeks like this, but I think as long as we're all believing that we are starting to go in the right direction, that's how we bounce back from these (games) and it also makes us hungrier to make our fans proud."

In what will be arguably a season-defining game against North Queensland, the Gold Coast still have a hope of qualifying for the finals with certainly no lack of desire to be playing past the first week of September, especially having their last four of six games in front of their home fans.

"There's still a mathematical chance we can play finals and anytime we're running out for the Titans, especially at Cbus, [that gives us plenty of motivation]," Brimson said.

"That's why it was so disappointing on the weekend. We definitely didn't look [the side we want to be] in last weekend's game... we definitely wanted to win but I don't know what happened when we got out there,

"There's still plenty to play and we want to make sure our fans can enjoy us winning some games."

Missing Origin teammate Jeremiah Nanai in the clash, Brimson still knows how much of a threat the finals hopefuls are having won their past six games in a row, particularly with the threat of his opposite number roaming out the back.

"He's a massive loss for them, but they're still a quality side... it's probably made them 0.2 percent easier... they are still going to be a hard side to beat.

"He's a good mate of mine (Nanai) but I'm glad he's out because he's a threat, but they've got a lot a lot of strike at the same.

"Especially Drinky... he's a good lad and I've always rated him. I've always thought he's a very skillful player and I thought it was good for him to get that call up into that Origin camp and he deserved it.

"He's a massive part of their attack, so I'd rather him out than Nanai, but we'll cop Nanai being out for now."
