Mino-Sinapati knighted rookie as six Titans share in QRL spoils

Destiny Mino-Sinapati has gone from strength to strength in 2023, being named the BMD Premiership rookie of the year at Friday’s QRL Awards.

One of six award recipients from the Gold Coast, the 18-year-old began her year excelling in the club’s Future Titans Academy, scoring four tries in a scintillating performance against the Newcastle Knights in January.

She then began her Queensland Rugby League season in the Harvey Norman Under 19s with Wynnum Manly, before being quickly promoted to their BMD Premiership side to wear the No. 1 jersey; making seven appearances, becoming an elusive tackle breaker with her immense speed.

Helping the Seagulls to the grand final, Mino-Sinapati’s success was also recognised by Queensland selectors with the Future Titans alumni selected in the Maroons Under 19 team.

Her breakout season caught the attention of Titans coach Karyn Murphy, who brought the young gun into the Gold Coast’s top 24 – with the pathways product earning her NRLW debut in Round 1 and impressing in her maiden season.

“Destiny is a prime example of taking opportunities when they come with her quick rise to the NRLW a testament to her determination, hard work and willingness to learn and grow as a player,” she said.

“I’m extremely proud to see how far she has come this year after graduating from our academy program to the NRLW, and she is well and truly deserving of her accolades in the BMD Premiership this season.”

Four Titans featured in the female competition’s team of the year, with Evania Pelite named at fullback, Emily Bass on the wing, Dannii Perese at prop and Shannon Mato at lock.

Perese also earned the Murray Hurst Education Award; meanwhile, Jacob Alick was named in the Hostplus Cup team of the year as the second rower as the 23-year-old forward prepares to play in his first grand final for the Burleigh Bears this Sunday.
