The Titans have joined forces with the Tweed Seagulls to appoint Shaun Davison in a new development officer role for the Tweed and Northern Rivers areas.
Recognising the continued growth and strength of rugby league in such an important catchment for both clubs, Davison’s appointment will help increase coach and player development in the region.
A commitment in the club’s extended affiliation agreement that was renewed in August, the highly-credentialled coach will continue to primarily service the Group 1 and 18 areas with the delivery of RISE and oversee the Northern Rivers programs in the New South Wales underage competitions, as well as working to further grow coach literacy in the area.
Tweed Seagulls CEO Brendon Lindsay is excited to have both the Titans and Tweed partnering in this position.
“It’s a very important step for both of our organisations to invest in this role,” Lindsay said.
“It’s great to have Shaun appointed to the role, who’s been involved in the Northern Rivers Titans for a number of years, so to be able to promote someone into a full-time position in our game to help further develop the region is a great step.
“As a Statewide club, the Seagulls have a responsibility to invest back into our community and continue supporting our NRL affiliate, and this appointment allows us to extend our affiliation and reach across the southern Gold Coast and Northern Rivers areas, as well as further connecting our community to the NRL in the pathway and community spaces.”
Davison hails from Grafton where he played for the Ghosts for several seasons, as well as working for the Titans previously in a consultancy role for a number of years. This has included coaching teams for the Northern Rivers Titans in the Andrew Johns and Laurie Daley competitions – winning two premierships with his Under 16 cohort which included young and upcoming playmakers of Tom Weaver (2019) and Zane Harrison (2022).
From his time in the program, he has also had the opportunity to coach the New South Wales Under 16s and serve as an assistant in the Under 18s.
“It’s a very exciting time for me taking on this role and a great opportunity with the Titans and Tweed to work full-time in helping develop the Northern Rivers,” Davison said on his appointment.
“It’s a natural progression for myself given I’ve been involved with the Northern Rivers Titans for the last seven years as head coach previously and now program coordinator and as a Grafton boy, I’ve always wanted to develop and promote rugby league in our area.
“The biggest thing for me starting in this role is to begin conversations with a lot of the major Northern Rivers stakeholders and listen to see where the most value can be put with this new role – especially across coach and player development and education.”
Davison begins in the new role this week.
