Titans celebrate rapid growth of Kinetic Schools League competition

The Titans are proud to announce the club is anticipating further growth in its 2024 Kinetic Schools League competition after a record number of participants took part in the Gold Coast junior competition this year.

Already the largest school rugby league competition in Australia, 2023 saw almost 2500 players take the field, with 128 teams involved in 370 games played across Terms 1, 2 and 3; growing from 2000 students in 2022.

Over 750 of those participants were female, with the Titans proudly celebrating Mabel Park State High School’s triumph at the top level, crowned National Schoolgirl Cup champions after success at both the state and national championships.

Looking ahead to the 2024 competition – which has seen current Titans AJ Brimson, Jayden Campbell and Chantay Kiria-Ratu involved as past players - recent expressions of interest has suggested there will be further exponential growth in the popular Coast competition, with several new private and public schools indicating their intention of participating.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell is proud of the competition’s rapid expansion, which is extremely important for the Gold Coast club and community.

“The acceleration of growth has been massive… it’s been great watching just under 2500 students compete in the competition, 750 of those females and for next year, expressions of interest suggest girls teams will outweigh the boys at the moment,” Mitchell said.

“It’s quite extraordinary the explosion of growth and by all indications, the Kinetic Titans Schools League will surpass this year’s highs in 2024, so it’s an extremely exciting time and there’s some great stories out of the competition.

“Especially Mabel Park coming through and winning the grand final when they were 26 points down to Ipswich this year… then to win the state final and go on to be national champions is pretty cool.

“The makeup of the participation in the competition and the schools involved are a big part of who we are as a community and a big part of who we are as a club, so we’re thrilled with the fact the competition continually goes from strength to strength.”
