Queensland Origin hopeful Beau Fermor is only game away from a potential Maroons berth, should Billy Slater follow the advice from several league greats.

Having been one of the Titans' best in the opening 10 rounds, there has been overwhelming support to see the Dalby Devils product play a pivotal role in this year's series, with the Game I teams to be announced this coming Monday.

Queensland's most-capped player Cameron Smith has been one of the legends to lead the charge and champion Fermor's selection, unveiling him in his starting line-up for the opener at Suncorp Stadium in a fortnight.

Fellow greats Corey Parker and Gorden Tallis also have the 26-year-old in their sides, alongside the backing of the Maroons' most successful coach Mal Meninga.

"Beau Fermor has been terrific all year and has been knocking down the door for the last couple of years now," he told SEN.

"Younger legs, competitive players. I feel they can come into contention this year."

With a continued emphasis on effort and having shown his versatility at both centre and in the back-row across his career, Fermor's endorsement is also coming from across the border by one of the game's greatest minds.

Former Blues coach Phil Gould sung the praises of the Gold Coast forward recently, believing he should be front and centre for Game I.

"Inspired selection, Beau Fermor... I like that," he told Wide World of Sports' 100% Footy upon Cameron Smith predicting the Game I team.

"He's a really good player and I think he would excel playing with those great players in Origin."

He also has the backing of his Titans teammates who all hope to see him alongside Tino Fa'asuamaleaui and Moeaki Fotuaika in Origin camp next week, although there wasn't too much love from passionate former Blues enforcer Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

"I hope he gets bashed," he joked with SEN's Scott Sattler and Mat Rogers.

"He's been outstanding and probably one of our most consistent players up to now. We've obviously got one game to go but I hope he does get picked, I really do as a teammate."
