Phil 150: Sami reflective ahead of milestone match

After a decade with the Gold Coast Titans, winger Phil Sami is set to play his 150th NRL game this weekend against the Raiders at Cbus Super Stadium.

The milestone places the flyer among the club’s top five for all-time appearances, and its significance is not lost on the veteran back.

With 2026 confirmed as his final season with the club, the moment carries extra importance.

“To play 150 games at this club means a lot.

"I’ve been here for 10 years now and to rack up 150 is pretty special,” Sami said.

“I’m just grateful they’ve (Titans) given me that.

"They’ve given me a home and the opportunity to play NRL for a decade.”

Asked about reaching the milestone at home, Sami was excited by the opportunity to equal club legend Luke Bailey’s appearance record on familiar turf.

“It means a lot, he said."

“I got to play my 100th game here at Cbus Super Stadium, and to do it again here for my 150th is pretty cool.

“Because you get all your family and friends down to the game, so I'm looking forward to it and can't wait.”

Sami will join Bailey on 150 appearances, with Anthony Don (152), William Zillman (156), current teammate Moeaki Fotuaika (170) and Mark Minnichiello (173) ahead of him.

Reflecting on his final season in Titans colours, Sami said his focus is on finishing on a high.

“The club is going in an upward direction with Josh (Hannay) and (Scott) Sattler here, Sami said."

"The culture is a lot better and we all want to play for the boys and the coach.

“It will be a bit weird leaving AJ (Brimson) and Moe (Fotuaika) - I’ve been playing with them my whole career.

“But my focus is on this season, and what comes next year will come.

“I’m just focusing on what I can do for the Titans this year and finishing on a high.”
