The Titans finished their first day at the Downer NRL Auckland Nines with a perfect two from two, after downing the Bulldogs 17-10 in their Waiheke Pool clash.

Fans could be forgiven for thinking they were seeing double as the Titans crossed for two tries in quick succession, with the first scored by utility back Tyronne Roberts-Davis and the second by halfback Tyrone Roberts.

Neither four-pointer was converted, leaving the Titans to hold an 8-0 advantage at the break.

Junior Kiwi Reimis Smith halved the gap when he juggled the ball down the sideline and scored for the Bulldogs, but on the next set Gold Coast half Tyler Cornish stepped and sliced his way through for a bonus try.

Back-rower Chris McQueen scored a long-range try with less than two minutes remaining to secure the Gold Coast victory, before Tom Carr crossed on the siren for the Dogs with Matt Frawley converting.

Titans 17 (Tyronne Roberts-Davis, Tyrone Roberts, Tyler Cornish, Chris McQueen tries) def. Bulldogs 10 (Reimis Smith, Tom Carr tries; 1 goal). Half-time: 8-0.
