Coach Garth Brennan has squashed claims that Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston is passed his expiry date and is preparing for him to be at his best this Saturday night.

“JT (Thurston) is the best I’ve ever seen,” Brennan said. “You should never write off a champion, you never do.

“We need to be on our game for him this weekend.”

Whilst the Cowboys form has been down so far in 2018, the first year Coach is expecting them to be back to their best at home.

“Greeny (Cowboys Coach Paul Green) is a fantastic Coach and their team has class and rep players right across the field. Our side isn’t there yet (with a lot of rep players) but we’ll go up there and give it our best shot.

“Six to eight weeks ago they were premiership favourites. We’re well aware of the danger they present. They could go on a run at any stage.”

One encounter fans will be excited to see will be the Thurston v Ash Taylor clash.

“Ash will be excited. If I was playing against him I certainly would be. It will be a good challenge, he looks up to him and admires him.”
