Halfback Ash Taylor is keen to get one up on one of his idols this Saturday night against the Cowboys in Townsville.

Taylor makes the tip north to take on Johnathan Thurston, someone who he has looked up to many years.

“It should be an awesome game,” Taylor said. “It’s good to come up against him and he is one of my idols growing up.

“Being able to play against him is unreal but I really want to get the win, I don’t think I’ve had a win against the Cowboys.”

Many commentators have been critical of Thurston’s form but Taylor disagrees.

“You can’t say that. He is a future immortal, I think. He’s not playing his best footy but in saying that he can bounce back at any time.”

As the halfback of the side and the leader of the side, Taylor believes that the inclusion of Mitch Rein at hooker, replacing the injured Nathan Peats (ribs) will not hinder the side too much.

“Peatsy (Nathan) is a big influence on our team and he offers a lot of chat but Reiny (Mitch Rein) has the same skills. They are big shoes to fill but I’m pretty sure he’ll be up to the task.”
