Tyrone Roberts has delivered the news every Gold Coast Titans fan wants to hear – Ash is on his way back.

Roberts said his halfback partner Ash Taylor was impressing everyone at pre-season training under the Titans’ new coaching cartel, led by Head Coach Justin Holbrook.

After a difficult and testing 12 months for Taylor, where he took time away from the game to deal with personal problems, Roberts says the old Ash is back at Parkwood.

“He looks good. He is in good shape, training well, running well,” Roberts said. “He is in control of stuff on and off the field at the moment, so he is in a good space.”

Roberts said Taylor’s popularity among his Titans teammates meant that the halfback’s private struggles were felt across the group – particularly some of the damaging criticism that came his way from anonymous snipers on social media.

“(Last season) was hard for everyone,” he said. “We had a lot of young kids, and we didn’t go well, so they got thrown in the deep end.

“But they have experienced that now. We just have to enjoy football again and move forward.

“I don’t have social media, but you can feel it when someone is down like that.

“Everyone feels it. There’s not one person the team – there is a whole 17 out there.

“He is in a good headspace at the moment, I can see it.”
