Peters ready for NRLW resurgence with Titans

Rona Peters may be new to the Titans, but she certainly isn't a stranger to the NRLW competition.

Known for her highlights reel of greatest hits, the powerful forward is excited to be joining her local team for the upcoming Telstra Premiership season, fresh from finals success as a community coach of the Gold Coast women's team Runaway Bay.

"Coming back into the NRLW scene is pretty special," Peters said.

"It is cool too with Runaway Bay [playing finals].  It's pretty hard to just stand there and watch, but I'm still a big part of it and am really helping the girls out, running the water and doing what I can just to help.

"But the transition has been pretty cool [from local league to NRLW].

Last playing at the top level in 2019 as part of the premiership-winning Brisbane Broncos side, the 34-year-old experienced prop is looking forward to joining the squad of talented forwards, linking forces with fellow veteran middle third Steph Hancock in helping bring through the next generation of talent.

"It's exciting, like especially with the young ones that are coming through," Peters said.

"Then you've got my mate Steph and to be be back with her playing some footy alongside the Shannon [Mato's] and all of them is pretty mean.

"I think that's probably where I can help mostly is my experience, especially with the young ones coming through. Not only that, just giving experience out there when I play."

No stranger to being coached by Titans new mentor Karyn Murphy, the heavy hitter knows the G.O.A.T of women's rugby league is the best of both worlds when it comes to leading a team.

"It's so good and cool... everything because she's so passionate, but a bit of a kickback coach too," Peters said.

"But one thing with her we all know is when we're there to do the job, we're there to do the job for her."

Round 1 of the NRLW season kicks off on Sunday, August 21 when the Titans travel to Wollongong to face the Dragons.
