Four Titans charged as Kelly, Canfield face bans

Four Gold Coast Titans have been charged by the match review committee out of yesterday's NRL and NRLW matches against the Newcastle Knights.

Brian Kelly faces a long stint on the sidelines after he was charged with a Grade Three Dangerous Throw which also resulted in the Titans centre being sent off in his side's win over the Knights.

Kelly faces a four-match ban with an early guilty plea for the dangerous throw charge or five matches if he is unsuccessful in contesting the charge at the judiciary.

Given the Titans cannot make the finals, Kelly's suspension will carry over into the start of the 2023 NRL Telstra Premiership season.

Forward Isaac Liu was the other Titans player charged from Sunday's matches, with the veteran prop facing a $1,500 fine for a Grade One Crusher Tackle charge on Knights centre Krystian Mapapalangi.

In the NRLW the Titans also received two charges, with Zara Canfield and Laikha Clarke being sighted.

It was a mixed night for Titans backrower Zara Canfield.

Clarke will only receive a warning for a grade one dangerous contact charge on Yasmin Clydsdale in the 38th minute but Canfield is facing a stint on the sidelines.

The backrower scored the Titans opening try but also collected Knights fullback Tamika Upton high in an eventful night.

Canfield has been charged with a grade two careless high tackles and faces one week on the sidelines with an early plea.
