Titans to host special Cup clash curtain-raiser

The Hostplus Cup will return to Cbus Super Stadium next year with a very special game for fans to enjoy as part of a history-making NRL blockbuster.

The Tweed Seagulls will host the Redcliffe Dolphins as the curtain-raiser to the Titans' clash against the Dolphins on Sunday, July 9, treating fans to a Sunday afternoon delight for the whole family.

There has always been a rich, competitive history between the two combatants.

Whilst Redcliffe got the spoils last season, Tweed celebrated success by emphatically knocking the Dolphins out of the finals in 2021 as revenge for 2019; when the latter did exactly the same to the Seagulls by a mere one-pointer in a thriller at Piggabeen.

Following the release of the Hostplus Cup season draw on Tuesday for the new year ahead, both Gold Coast affiliate clubs will be hoping to advance further into September after falling just short in the 2022 finals series.

Burleigh - under new coach Luke Burt - will be hoping to start their season off on the right foot, but have a tough challenge in their first clash against the defending premiers at Bishop Park.

The Norths Devils got the chocolates in last year's qualifying final at Pizzey Park, which will add extra motivation and spice to the Round 1 contest.

For Tweed, they will also have a new mentor following Ben Woolf's appointment to the Dragons, with Dave Penna taking the reins after overseeing the Seagulls as the club's head of football for the past three seasons.

In the season opener, they'll hope to get off to a winning start up against the Capras up in Rockhampton; although, the clash will be no easy feat after Central Queensland were the surprise packet of 2022 with a heroic finals appearance.
