'Time will tell': Foran to leave halves decision to Holbrook

Kieran Foran has declared he is happy to wear either the No. 6 or 7 on his back in the Titans' season opener in just over six weeks time.

As the curious case of the Gold Coast spine edges closer and closer to being revealed, the talented half has the ability to play in both positions on both sides of the field, although has played 249 of his first grade games at five-eighth.

With Justin Holbrook confirming both him and fellow new recruit Sam Verrills will be in the starting line-up for the clash against the Wests Tigers, the experienced playmaker is happy to leave the decision to his Titans coach as to the exact role he'll play.

"There's a number of options there and that's what Justin has been saying throughout the pre-season... he hasn't made his mind up yet. He's not sure what the makeup of the spine is going to look like and that's exciting," Foran said.

"I think all of us can adjust on the run and can play a certain number of positions and roles.

"We'll probably feel that out over the first few weeks and then get settled on those combinations and build that familiarity with one another so that we can hit the ground running come trials and in Round 1."

Even with 262 NRL games under his belt, the premiership-winner doesn't want to influence the upcoming spine decision, staying right out of the discussion being had by Titans coaching staff.

"It's not my place to (have a say). I'm a player so my job is to get on and do whatever the coaches ask of me and that will be no different this time round," Foran said.

"I'll be focusing on where Justin feels that I'm best suited for the side... whether that's six or whether that's seven, time will tell.

"I'm quite comfortable playing both roles and I'm sure the other guys are too."

'They're really eager and that excites me': Foran

Although around six players will need to be squeezed into only two positions, Foran is glad to see the depth of talent on the Coast, knowing it's required in every winning NRL side.

"It's great to have competition for spots. You need it in your club and you also need the depth," he said.

"You're not going to get through a full season without any injuries in key positions. We know that, so it's great to have a number of guys that are able to come in and really excel at their job and we'll have depth any which way we'll go."
