Affiliate wrap: Kini continues to impress in rookie season

Keano Kini continues to take the Hostplus Cup competition by storm, notching up his third game making over 200 run metres in only his seventh appearance for Burleigh.

Now averaging 183 run metres, a line break and three tackle busts a game, the 19-year-old scored a try and played a big role in his side's 20-16 win over the Brisbane Tigers to sit on top of the ladder, earning the Bears' player of the match honours.

Such a start the long-term Titan has had with his affiliate club, Burleigh coach Luke Burt is unsure whether they'll have their young star for next week's top of the table clash against Central Queensland given the injuries to AJ Brimson and Kieran Foran in Saturday's NRL clash against the Sea Eagles.

"I thought Keano Kini was fantastic today," Burt told QRL.com.au after their win over the Tigers.

"He was sensational back there and I reckon there might be a chance we might not have him next week. Good luck to the kid.

"Being honest, in January I probably did not (expect this form from him), but after the Titans trials, this is exactly what we expected from Keano. He’s been fantastic."

Also helping the Bears to their fifth win of the season was Jacob Alick, who was awarded the QRL's player of the match honours for his performance - which included a try, 112 running metres and 36 tackles at an impeccable 100 percent efficiency.

Burleigh Bears backrower Jacob Alick was a force to be reckoned with against the Brisbane Tigers, taking out the Round 7 Hastings Deering player of the match 💪

They'll next host the undefeated Capras at home on Saturday.

Tweed will take on the Clydesdales at Piggabeen after enjoying the weekend off with the bye.
