It’s official... Captain Charger is back!
The Titans are thrilled to confirm the return of one of the region’s most iconic rugby league figures, who will make a special appearance at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday against the Panthers.
A familiar sight for rugby league fans in the 90s throughout the Chargers era, Captain Charger will be reborn, roaming the sidelines and engaging with members and fans as the Titans celebrate the Gold Coast’s rich rugby league history.
Adding to the occasion, popular 102.9 Hot Tomato breakfast host and Gold Coast radio personality Paul Gale will step into the famous suit again - 30 years on - bringing the quintessential character back to life for a new generation of fans.
"When the concept was first floated with me, it was a definite no as I was long-time retired since I last wore the suit back in 1997; but the overwhelming support from Gold Coast listeners has given me the courage to go back in time and a make a return," Gale said.
"Times have changed and 30 years is a long time when it comes to fitness and being able to do the same things.
"I have a nervous expectation of no endurance, no agility and no non-acceptable behaviour. In a nutshell, I'm full of fear, but also super excited."

With Gold Coast to also don their ever-popular Chargers-inspired heritage jersey in the clash as part of Retro Round and Old Boys day, Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said Captain Charger’s return would evoke fond memories for many supporters.
"Captain Charger is one of the most iconic sporting figures the Gold Coast has ever produced and we’re excited to welcome him back to Cbus Super Stadium this weekend," Mitchell said.
"The overwhelming response to our Chargers-inspired heritage range has been incredible and the final piece of the puzzle was the rebirth of Captain Charger.
"The call to arms from our community to help make this happen has been enormous and I couldn’t think of a more perfect fit than to have passionate Gold Coaster Paul Gale bring Captain Charger back to life again, three decades on.
"Talking with Galey, he’s embraced the opportunity to step back in time and we’re sure fans will enjoy seeing the character return to entertain the crowd once again.
"Whether you supported the Chargers, the Seagulls, the Giants or you’ve come to rugby league through the Titans, this Saturday is a chance for everyone to celebrate the unique history of our game on the Gold Coast."
