Brothers St Brendan’s sealed victory with a late try to grab a 16-10 win over the Redlands Parrots in the SEQ Under-18 Women’s Grand Final at Cbus Super Stadium.
In a thrilling game that acted as the main curtain-raiser to the Titans NRL clash with the Eels, both teams showed plenty of skills and determination in a game worthy of the NRL’s Women in League Round.
Brothers scored the first and only try of the first half, then kept the pressure on by scoring the first in the second half, using brute strength to storm over on the edge to extend their lead out to 8-0.
The Parrots weren’t ready to surrender just yet and showed some great determination and skill with a line-break that to a try, reducing the deficit, before Brothers crossed again to give themselves breathing room.
Some quality football and missed conversions from Brothers St Brendan’s allowed Parrots to claw back and stay in the contest, scoring in the corner to take this one down to the wire.
The Parrots unfortunately missed their conversion attempt which brought the game back to a two-point difference, but a late surge from Brothers St Brendan’s sealed them the 16-10 win.
The match showed just how strong women’s rugby league is in South East Queensland, with a vocal crowd on hand to watch the talent on display from these NRLW stars of the future.
